In our land of plenty, no one should go hungry. Yet as many as 35 million Americans struggle to get adequate food every day. It's the shared mission of Feeding America and RACommunity to help end hunger through a nationwide network of member food banks, and engaging all citizens to join in the fight to end hunger.
Hunger touches many of us. Did you know that:
• More than 12 million children live in food insecure households?
• Almost 10% of the elderly in America live below the poverty line, and are much less likely to receive and use food stamps than younger individuals?
• 36% of all households served by Feeding America have at least one working adult in the home?
• 42% of Feeding America clients report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel?
• Many emergency feeding programs in the U.S. rely entirely on volunteers; 66% of pantry programs and 40% of kitchens have no paid staff at all?
